CHROMOSOMES

Chromosomes are the containers for DNA found in eukaryotic cells. Except during cell division, chromosomes are arranged in threadlike strands called chromatin--  a mixture of DNA and protein.

DNA also exists in bacterial cells; but the DNA of bacteria is arranged in circular structures rather than packaged in chromosomes.
