Calculating Depth of Cut for Lathe Operations
The depth of cut (DOC) is the distance that a tool penetrates into the workpiece. It is calculated in lathe operations as follows:
The DOC the half the difference between the initial diameter and the final diameter.
Note that the above workpiece has a more complex (but common) twist: it includes two machined diameters. It will therefore have two depths of cut, and two final diameter measurements (D2)
