Ford Model A

(Ford Motor Company)

  • The Model A was a replacement for (and upgrade to) the long-running Model T, which had been sold for 18 years. Despite the extremely long production run of the Model T, the Model A included few major mechanical innovations. It did however, feature a complete style makeover.

  • The Model A was released at time when other automobile manufacturers (like Chevrolet) were beginning to cut into Ford’s market share. It was styled to compete with new, more luxurious models produced by Ford’s competitors.

  • The car went into production in October 1927 and was on sale to the public in December of the same year.

  • The Model A was available in a variety of styles, including Standard Coupe, Business Coupe, Roadster Coupe, and Convertible. The Model A was also available in four standard colors. Prices for these styles ranged from $385 to $570.

  • Production of the Model A ended on August 31, 1931. By this time, 4,320,446 Model As had been manufactured. The car was replaced by the Ford Model B.

  • The company GAZ, originally a cooperative venture between Ford and the Soviet Union, manufactured a version of the Model A. GAZ built 100,000 Model As between 1932 and 1936.
